Agenda
1. International Recruitment Work Group Report
Sara Miller presented a report on international recruitment including an overview of the landscape, changes and trends in recent years, and challenges and opportunities. Materials are attached.
Points:
  • There is no single big way to grow enrollment. We have small numbers from many countries, so smart, target growth is needed for each region/country.
  • Japan has been the biggest country for MVCC, but their potential population is shrinking.
  • Students in other countries are looking for more affordable ways to have an international experience.
  • New international online application being implemented now; also has been discussion of a virtual tour on the website, but there are costs to build and maintain.
  • Creative possibilities beyond the proposed Fall-Spring Intensive English program include summer ESL. Intensive English programs require one or more new faculty hires, because at the current level there is no way to staff the all-day course hours.
Next Steps
  • Oct. 22 prepare and finalize a recommendation related to the Intensive English Program implementation including faculty hiring.
  • Lew and Jake will give an update on the creator handbook project at the next meeting.
  • Lew will bring information about the new University partnerships/transfer to the next meeting.
  • Cabinet has requested EMC’s enrollment projection for 2016-17. Discussion is needed at the Oct. 22 meeting.
