1. Update on HIT Recommendation
EMC was notified because of our recommendation for online Anatomy and Physiology, that the HIT program may instead undergo a curriculum change per its accrediting body to use BI 103 Human Life Science (online) instead of the A&P sequence. That could be good for enrollment, as the program becomes more doable for students without a strong science background, and probably more accessible for all-online students. If the change opens up the door to more students enrolling, the College will need to add online sections of BI103.
2. Enrollment Projection for 2019-20
There was discussion about the data and graphs shared by Matt Fikes and the draft narrative. The Council agreed upon the -4.1% projection based on the data, noting that this projection is identical to last year’s projection. Matt agreed to attach a couple of his other recent charts to the packet to be sent to Cabinet next week, including comparative data with SUNY CC peers, which was used to understand the possible impact of our later start in 2017, and a chart showing lack of correlation between tri country graduating class size with the entering class size at MVCC. Some adjustments will be made to the draft narrative as well, including correction of the number of additional students that would move us 1% in fall enrollment, and a standardization and de-emphasis on (+/-) factors.
3. Work for rest of the semester
The next two meetings will be cancelled because of conflicts, which leaves two meetings: April 19 and May 3, in order to report on progress related to our previous recommendations, and to prepare an end of the year report.
Next meeting: Friday, April 19th, 1:00-1:50 pm.
