1. Hawk Vision
  • Jim Lynch provided an overview of Hawk Vision (Futures Council). Some of what they do is about what education will be like in the future, educational technology, micro-credentials, etc. (K-6 teachers April 7 2-4 pm). Some is the economic environment, future of industry (Ryan Miller, Thincubator April 26th 3:00 pm AC116.)
  • Ideas for collaboration: semi -annual or annual summit of Hawk Vision and EMC? Matt Fikes volunteered to serve on Hawk Vision as a liaison between the groups.

2. AACC Hot CC Programs
  • Data there is 10 years old. We need to research more recent trends in academic programs.
  • If we already have a fairly wide spectrum of CC growing programs, then is the best avenue for growing enrollment more about making programs accessible for more people in the community (evening cohorts, online cohorts, flexible formats, etc.)?
  • What if we returned more to an older MVCC model of “Day School/Night School?”
  • There was a discussion of why online and hybrid courses are not as popular as expected or enrollment is declining. Do these options work best when they are in a tightly designed, well-supported packaged program rather than stand -alone courses? That could help with attrition issues in online courses, and minimize the challenge of marketing stand- alone hybrid courses to students (they don’t know what it is).

Next steps
Work items ongoing:
1) Keep the wiki table up to date tracking recommendations
2) Return to enrollment projections—especially for Fall 2017, not just Fall 2016
3) Research potential new programs—any more ideas of where to look?
4) Meet with Dean Team regarding EMC’s progress and get their input
