Enrollment Management Council

January 28, 2016

Present: Shahida Dar, Julie Dewan, Jen DeWeerth (chair), Dayton Elseth, Matt Fikes, Dan Ianno, Bill McDonald
Excused: Jason Carpenter, Rich Haubert, Lew Kahler. Jake Mihevc
Guest: Jim Myers, Institutional Research
Agenda
1. Welcome and Introductions
Dayton was welcomed to the Council. Shahida was welcomed back after a semester away.
2. Trend Analysis and Enrollment Projection
Matt presented a series of graphs for several populations with actual, linear, polynomial, and averaged projections for fall 2015. There was discussion of combining the graphs into one so the population sizes are more easy to see (i.e. transfer and first time are much smaller than continuing). Dan reviewed Oneida county high school graduation projections. Matt will also build spring semesters into the data to determine if the prior spring can assist in projecting fall enrollments. The list of supplemental concepts was reviewed and the following were added: the five cohorts in the recruitment document projecting a potential of +124 students with investment in recruiting vets, international students, the evening business management cohort for adults, UPTC, and NYC recruitment; the possible enrollment impact if the feds bring PELL in prison to scale, the potential if the local population increases over the next three years because of growth nano at Marcy.
3. Transfer/UPTC Recommendation
45 additional new enrollments for fall 2016 are predicted to be tied to the growth of bachelor’s degree programs on the MVCC campus including 15 related to the revival of the Oneonta program. Being able to commute for four years to MVCC and earn an associate and bachelor’s degree potentially through seamless transfer and at SUNY tuition (rather than private tuition) could be a major cost savings for families. A wider range of programs is also possible than what students currently have available at SUNY Poly. The recommendation was approved to send forward. It should be added to the tracking table/enrollment plan. Monday, Feb 1 there is a media event to announce the opening of the UPTC.
4. Adult Learners
Between the new evening cohort, and the emphasis of the new strategic plan, this is likely our next recommendation. Matt and Bill volunteered to continue the research and market analysis.
Next steps
  • Jen will send the UPTC recommendation forward.
  • Everyone check the wiki and make sure that we have included all the possible supporting data, documentation of effort, and outcomes to date in the plan/table.
