Enrollment Management Council

February 25, 2016

Present: Shahida Dar, Julie Dewan, Jen DeWeerth (chair), Dayton Elseth, Rich Haubert, Dan Ianno, Lew Kahler, Bill McDonald
Excused: Jason Carpenter, Matt Fikes, Jake Mihevc
Agenda
1. Adult Learner/Part-time recommendation draft
  • There was discussion about the draft, and some editing.
  • Bill noted that there is opportunity to connect with the WIB around the BEAM grant. (Bridge to Employment and Academic Marketplace.) He will follow up and coordinate his outreach with Adult Learner Services staff.
2. NY City Recruitment
  • Dan gave an overview of the potential for recruitment from NYC, connections made to date, and efforts planned including via the SUNY Welcome Center, key high schools, and community partners (CBOs). SUNY will pay for a bus to bring accepted/interested students to a special campus SOAR May 18 and 19.
  • A virtual tour is a must, according to partners we have talked with already. There was support for this idea. It has been long discussed but needs immediate budget support and implementation. The virtual tour is equally critical to support the international recruitment efforts.
  • Is it time for a NY City recruitment recommendation, as another subset under the “recruitment effort” survey item? Time is critical, given the current activity on the part of many upstate community colleges to accelerate NYC recruitment to meet enrollment goals—almost a competition now to capture market share.
  • There was a general discussion about the value of tracking expenditures directly related to enrollments to determine the return on investment of budget commitments that EMC has supported as part of recommendations.
Next steps
    • Everyone check the wiki and make sure that we have included all the possible supporting data, documentation of effort, and outcomes to date in the plan/table.
    • Jen will send the adult learner recommendation forward.
